Operation Valentine

DeJohn Funeral Homes and Crematory is sponsoring another Veterans and Family Memorial Care Program - Operation Valentine.  Like the stockings for soldiers, we will be collecting homemade Valentines to send to men and women serving our country overseas.  We are inviting area schools to participate by writing messages to the troops on Valentine Cards, Cut-Out Hearts, or whatever they like and we will make sure that they are delivered to our brave men and women serving overseas.

Cards cannot include glitter, food or candy, but there are still many ways to personalize a handmade card. Write a message on them and say “Thank You”, tell them about yourself (use only first names) and wish them a Happy Valentine's Day! Our troops are away from their loved ones and friends so they really want to know that people back home appreciate them.  This is a real moral boost for the men and women who are serving our country.

This is a great class project or would be perfect for art class.  If you would like to participate, simply e-mail Amy or call 440-516-5555 and we will make arrangements to pick up the Valentines the week of January 25th

We sincerely hope you will join us in honoring our brave men and women who work hard in giving us the freedom we all enjoy.

On December 10 & 11, 2011, participants at our Tree Lighting Ceremonies were invited to hang an ornament on a tree in remembrance of those who have died during the past year.  These ornaments will remain on the trees through the holiday season.  On January 7, the ornaments will be removed from the trees.  They can be picked up Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm after January 7th.  We cannot be responsible for ornaments remaining after 30 days.  Please don’t hesitate to call either funeral home (216-291-3530 for South Euclid or 440-516-5555 for Willoughby Hills) if you have any questions.

Stockings for Soldiers

Thanks to all in the community who participated in our Stockings for Soldiers Program. On December 3, employees from the funeral homes packed more than 25 care packages, with well over 300 stockings to ship to soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan in time for Christmas.  Many of the packages were delivered to Ohio-based troops.  Several area schools including Sunview Elementary (Lyndhurst), Westwood Elementary (Russell), Gardiner Early Learning Center, Kenston (Bainbridge) and St. Clare Parish School of Religion (Lyndhurst) as well as local businesses, organizations and families decorated stockings and donated contents.  Several included notes of hope and appreciation.  For more information, check out the article in the Sun News on December 9, 2011.

Many, many thanks to the schools, businesses, organizations and individuals who participated in our Stockings for Soldiers initiative!  We heard from some of the units who received the stockings.  Click here to read their own words of thanks.
