We are pleased to announce the nine local students we have awarded with our Ross Sr. & Carmella DeJohn Memorial Scholarship. Each student will receive $750 for his or her college tuition or books in 2021.
Scholarships were awarded to Johnathan Gaudio of Mayfield High School (planning to study Chemical Engineering); Olivia Hamilton of Charles F. Brush High School (planning to study Early Elementary Education); Thomas Green of Kirtland High School (planning to study Education); Connor Walsh Marrott of Notre Dame – Cathedral Latin (attending University of Notre Dame); Patrick Garrett of West Geauga High School (attending The Ohio State University; Finance); Nicholas Paulic (attending John Carroll University; Math); Cade McCue of South High School (attending Kent State University); Mackenzie Morris of Chardon High School (attending College of Wooster); and Charles Proctor of St. Ignatius High School (attending Belmont University; Commercial Music and Music Business Entrepreneurship).
These students have demonstrated the ideals of passion, respect and organization to be eligible for the Ross Sr. & Carmella DeJohn Memorial Scholarship. Students that demonstrate these qualities as they achieve their higher education will become our future community leaders.
“Congratulations to the Class of 2021. While it was a challenging school year for many, we wish each of these fine young men and women the very best and continued success in their future,” said Ross DeJohn Jr., Chief Executive Officer for DeJohn Funeral Homes.
In 1993 the DeJohn family, in conjunction with the family owned funeral home, established the scholarship in honor of Ross (Sr) and Carmella’s dedication to education. Ross Sr. served as Mayor of Mayfield Heights for over 28 years and during that time was very supportive of all school related issues including support for many school levies. More than $35,000 in scholarships has been awarded to deserving high school seniors living in Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga counties.
Applications for the upcoming 2022 Ross Sr. & Carmella DeJohn Memorial Scholarship will be available for download in the coming months from the DeJohn website. For more information on the student scholarship, visit www.dejohncares.com/scholarship.
