Vincent Alvarez
It was quite a pleasure being on The Heights Basketball Sidelines for 11 years.
I met so many wonderful people including The Cappelletti Family.
I’ll always remember how Coach Cap gave all of us a chance to be around the game of basketball.
I’ll also remember how everyone in The Cappelletti ” Loved Their Pa”.

Condolence from Phil Brooks on May 3rd, 2019 9:07 pm

All you can ask out of life is love and work that matters. Seems like James Capp had both. Sadly, I never met Coach Capp, but if my dear pal Jimmy Capp Jr. is any indication he was a great dad and a man of good humor and the highest character. My family and I wish the Cappelletti family peace and love during these sad days.

Condolence from Ernie Cohen on May 4th, 2019 2:51 pm

To the entire Cap Family…I’m so sad to hear this news. I met both Coach & your Mom when I first got to Wiley in 1962. He was the first coach/teacher who I felt really cared about me, & we grew much closer during our time at Wiley & then at Heights. We saw each other periodically through the years, & more often after he met my daughters when they attended Heights. Our family went to a lot of his games, especially during the Final Four years (including trips to Columbus for the Finals). He always greeted me with a smile & a hug. He made a gigantic difference in my life…I loved him and I’ll never forget him. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Try to take good care of each other!! Love to all of you…. Ernie Cohen

Condolence from Jed Caswall, HHS 1968 on May 6th, 2019 7:03 pm

Back before HHS became a basketball powerhouse, Coach Cappelletti cultivated the ground in the Heights in the mid to late 1960’s. Back then, Coach Cap used to take a group of aspiring jr. high BB players (me included) to the East Cleveland YMCA on Friday nights for a couple of hours of basketball, swimming and fun. He was always encouraging, funny, and served as an excellent role model. He, along with new Head Coach Bob Tager, started to turn Height’s basketball fortunes around in the late 1960’s. I remember him helping me with my foul shooting and defensive positioning. He always displayed patience, and often accompanied his coaching with humor. It did not surprise me when he subsequently achieved the success he did as a coach and educator. As co-captain of the 1967-68 Tiger basketball team, I want to extend my and the team’s heartfelt condolences to Coach Cap’s family and friends. He made a positive difference!
