Ross & Carmella DeJohn Five Star Education Scholarship
In 1993, the DeJohn family in conjunction with their family owned funeral home, DeJohn Funeral Homes, established the scholarship in honor of Ross & Carmella’s dedication to education. Ross served as Mayor of Mayfield Heights for over 28 years and during that time was very supportive of all school related issues including his support in many school levies. The DeJohn’s wanted to give back to the community and what better way than starting an education scholarship. Since 1993, the DeJohn’s have awarded over $30,000 in scholarships. Today they offer four $500 scholarships to a deserving high school senior who lives in Cuyahoga, Lake or Geauga County.
This scholarship is presented to students who have demonstrated the Five Star Leadership Qualities of Integrity, Fairness, Excellence, Independence and Professionalism. These qualities will help continue their development growth on their journeys of becoming adults. What makes this award so special is the competition generated for it. We usually receive over 150 qualified applications from students throughout the greater Cleveland area who attend either a public or private school and live in their community. The winners should be very proud of themselves. Their names will be inscribed on a plaque proudly displayed in our funeral homes for everyone to see.
Congratulations to the Class of 2015 as we wish them the very best and continued success in the future and to all their parents for their leadership and guidance throughout the years!
We would like to congratulate our 2015 Ross and Carmella DeJohn Five Star Scholarship winners!
These four students have demonstrated the “Five – Star” Ideals of Integrity, Fairness, Excellence, Independence and Professionalism.
