EILEEN M. GATTOZZI (nee Knific) age 89, beloved wife of the late Nichola; loving mother of Lorene Radis (husband Albert), J. Jerry (wife Sandra), and Mary Lynn (Timothy DeJohn deceased) ; devoted grandmother of Marissa Puglisi (husband Joe), Albert Radis, Jeremy Gattozzi (wife Victoria), Cara and Cortney Colak, Krysta Gattozzi (fiancé Daniel Krause), and great-grandmother of Mia Puglisi, Lia Gattozzi and Gianna Gattozzi; cherished daughter of the late Frank and Mary (nee Donat) Knific; dearest sister of the late Frank Knific; dear aunt and great-aunt of many.
She attended Euclid Shore High School, graduating in 1949. She met her husband 1951 at the Mill Tavern before they settled in Mayfield Heights in 1953 and raised their family. Eileen and Nichola worked at the Grotto Inn in Collinwood in the sixties and then in 1970 they bought and ran Fisher’s Tavern until 1985.
Eileen liked to study astrology. Eileen enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She also enjoyed travelling with Nichola, especially visiting her family in Yugoslavia.
Eileen was a friend of Bill W for the past 48 years and touched many lives. She was particularly active in the Lyndhurst area. She is remembered as a good listener and a source of great advice. She was always ready to help anyone.
She was a loving and caring woman. She was an excellent cook and wonderful caregiver. Her dumpling soup and potato salad were family favorites. Eileen loved listening to music, including Rod Stewart, the Bee Gees and Madonna. She loved watching old comedies on television, especially I Love Lucy and Red Skelton. She was devoted to her family, her favorite way to pass time was any activity with them.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Eileen to Hospice of The Western Reserve.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 6850 Mayfield Road, Gates Mills, OH 44040. Private burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD.
