Hermiene Cooley

HERMIENE COOLEY (nee Lawrence), born Oct. 14, 1918, the daughter of the late Frank and Rose Lawrence, and passed into Heaven on Sunday evening Nov. 11, 2018. She died the way she had lived – with elegance and dignity. Hermiene’s life was full of love and devotion to her family. Her wonderful husband Gordon (d. Feb. 22, 2008) provided Hermiene and her children a beautiful quality of life. In her youth, Hermiene loved to dance, and as a young woman, she served as a civilian to support the war effort while husband Gordon fought overseas in WW II. Throughout her life, Hermiene loved to travel. In fact, she was an experienced world traveler, and always traveled in style. Her personal flair was evident in the way she looked, dressed and lived. She entertained beautifully. Everything she did reflected the highest standards. Hermiene hosted many family gatherings at her dining room table, and poolside at her home in Shaker Heights. Hermiene and Gordon were longtime members of Acacia Country Club. Most notably, Hermiene dedicated her life to her children, Gordie and Gayle (both deceased). Gayle lived with Hermiene through their various moves to Texas and Florida, and they spent their last years together in Solon, Ohio. They were, quite literally, inseparable. Although Gayle died earlier this year, Hermiene lived long enough to reach that rare milestone, her 100th birthday. Hermiene has touched the lives of many many nieces and nephews, all with special memories of Aunt Hermiene. A special thanks to great-nephew Mark Capadona for his years of caring for Auntie and cousin Gayle. Additional thanks for the devotion of the staff of Solon Pointe, who loved her as a family member.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd., Suite 270, Valley View, OH 44125 who assisted Auntie with so much heart in her last days. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 at Church of the Resurrection, 32001 Cannon Rd., Solon, at 12 Noon. Entombment Crown Hill Mausoleum. Arrangements entrusted to THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID.
