JAMES N. LIBERTY age 83, beloved husband for 60 years of Judith (nee Geer); loving father of Mark; cherished son of the late Nick and Helen (nee Fircak); dearest brother of Vincent Dean (wife Beverly) Liberty and brother-in-law of Patricia (husband Frank A. III) Smith and the late Deborah Russo; dear uncle and great-uncle of many.
Jim lived in Concord Township for 27 years and previously in Painesville for many years. He served as a mechanic in the U.S. Army. He has been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chardon since 2007 and St. Mary in Painesville prior to that. He and his wife Judy were members of the Serra Club where Jim was a former president. He graduated high school in Glassport, Pennsylvania. Jim went onto take college courses, where he studied business. He started his career as a surveyor, became a topographic stereo compiler, then became the CEO and owner of Aerocon, until he sold it in 2018. He was a Steelers fan, loved golf and proud of his numerous holes-in-one, and enjoyed carpentry. He also enjoyed relaxing and listening to classical and jazz music.
Mostly he was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his family and loved taking care of his employees at Aerocon. Jim as well enjoyed spending holidays in his hometown of Port Vue, Pennsylvania. People would describe Jim as witty, great with his words, very handy, a perfectionist, an extremely sharp dresser, and always loved his Cadillacs. But more than anything they would say he was a wonderful husband and father above all else. Jim will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 401 North St., Chardon. Entombment following with Military Honors at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Jim at THE DeJOHN Funeral Home & Crematory of Chardon (formerly Ritondaro) 126 South St. (Rt. 44, south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square) FRIDAY 3-7 PM.

Judith and family,
It was an honor being withbJim during his time of illness and celebrating the Sacraments with him. He and your family will be remembered in my Sunday Mass today, along with my weekday Masses this week too. May God’s comfort be with all of you today and into the future.

Going back to my earliest days as an engineer, early 1980s. I remember Jim helping me with mapping for the original Ashtabula County sewer system development. Just a kid out of college, he showed me what sterioscopic viewers were and how aerial mapping worked. Thank you, Jim! Rest in God’s peace until later !!
