JOHN L. WEBSTER, aged 71 years, beloved son of the late John E. and Katherine Ann (nee Ward), loving long-time companion to Lisa Slattery, dear brother of Lois Hiller, Mary, Robert (deceased), Paul, William, Steven J. (wife Maria) and Patricia Susan Grigsby, devoted uncle of Elizabeth Brown, Bailey, Steven T., Katy Mae, Emma Rae and Donovan Webster, and Kathleen, Daniel, Margaret and Matthew Grigsby, great-uncle of 2. Contributions suggested in memory of John to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192.
John L. Webster was born January 21, 1949 in Detroit, MI and passed away January 23, 2020 in Cleveland, OH. He was a resident of Painesville Township for the past 36 years. John belonged to the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Society for Industrial Archeology. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and attended John Carroll University. John worked as a design engineer. Most recently he was self-employed. Prior to that, he worked at Grumman Corporation, Meritec and Connected Unlimited. John liked to race in his Caldwell D13 and go aerobatic flying. He also liked model railroading, classic cars, vintage planes, model building, reading, dinosaurs and trebuchets. John loved the Cleveland Indians and Michigan football (he’s forgiven). What he treasured most in life was activities with his family and friends, especially at model railroad operating sessions and cruise-ins. He liked riding steam locomotives, learning and creating, satire, Smiley the bear and beer. John listened to big band and 1960s music. The Morley Library will miss him and his solitude reading his non-fiction. He will be remembered as a man who desired to learn, construct and amuse us with his humorous stories.
The family will receive friends to pay tribute and celebrate the life of John at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF SOUTH EUCLID, 4600 MAYFIELD RD. (just East of Green Rd.) SATURDAY AFTERNOON, FEB. 1, 2020, FROM 1-4 PM. Reception following. On-line obituary, guestbook and order flowers at www.DeJohnCares.com.
