Joseph M. Smargiassi, 89, (“Uncle Joe” to so many), loving husband of 67 years to Helen (Snider), to which Joe would say, “We’ve been married for 66 years. The first 6 were great, but the 61 after were even better!” Joe was the most incredible, loving father to Kim (Jim) McConnell and Kelly. He treasured his daughters. He was the loving and extremely proud grandfather to Alexander McConnell. Son of the late Santino and Jenny, loved brother of Clare DiFranco (Ray dec.), and the late Gloria Kluk (Marty dec.) and Carmen, who passed away at 2 years old. Uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he adored his entire life. Joe enjoyed spending so many years coaching his nieces and nephews from Little League into adulthood with co-ed softball. He was always the honorary “Uncle Joe” to so many that knew him through our family. Joe was so blessed to have such a wonderful group of friends over the years that he and his wife love very much. Joe loved playing golf with his friends and one of his earlier memories he shared was being a caddy for Bob Hope. He also loved feeding birds and squirrels, watching TV and debating politics with others. Joe was very proud of his Italian heritage and will be remembered as a strong-willed family man. Every single day, Joe enjoyed his meal with a glass of his family homemade wine.
The family would like to thank everyone for giving us their love, time and support in Joe’s final days as well as the amazing and compassionate doctors who cared for him over the last few years. Many heartfelt thanks to the Cleveland Clinic and Hospice workers that made Joe feel the love and compassion in their care.
Family meant everything to Joe and his family was beyond blessed to have such an amazing person that we had in the gift of Joe. He will be forever in our hearts and tremendously missed every day.
