Joseph W. Nuccio

JOSEPH W. NUCCIO, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2019. Joe was born to Peter and Antoinette (nee Minute) on August 2, 1927 in Cleveland Ohio and graduated from Collinwood High School. A proud WWII U.S. Navy veteran, Joe built his family home in Mayfield Heights where he lived for 60 years. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Clare and later St. Francis of Assisi Church. Joe was a dedicated and hardworking Otis Elevator adjuster for Local Union #17 for 42 years and a mentor to countless Otis guys. Many called him “Mr. Fixit” for his innovative abilities to build and fix anything for his family and friends. Always the life of the party, Joe was known for his sense of humor and love for music and dancing. He could water-ski barefoot, enjoyed flying in his son’s airplane and was passionate about cars – especially his Cadillacs. Joe enjoyed being surrounded by his kids, grandkid’s, eating Italian food and anything dark chocolate, hosting Superbowl parties, being outdoors and going on family vacations, especially his travels to Italy, London and Paris. Joe was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and season ticket-holder. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The twinkle in his eye, his bright smile and memorable laugh will be sincerely missed and fondly remembered by all those who loved and admired him.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Katherine (nee McDonald); sister Carmella Mansfield (husband Walter, deceased); brother Anthony (wife Peggy); daughters Cynthia Krause (husband Dale) and Holly Sanchez (husband Daniel); sons Lt. Col. Jeffrey (wife Katherine) and David; grandchildren Gina (husband David Moak), Hannah Buffington (husband Brien), Adam Krause, Morgan Krause and Julianna Sanchez; great-granddaughter Lucca Maria Moak; and brother-in law Robert McDonald (wife Patricia). Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Peter, Sr. and Antoinette (nee Minute) and his brother Peter, Jr.

  3. The most valuable currency we can use is gratitude. Thank you Joe for the blessing of your daughter Holly and your kindness to her family. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Nucio family. God bless.

Joe will be missed by all. A mentor and a good friend to all. His elevator knowledge was unprecedented and valuable to all, because he shared. He ran a beautiful building that was known throughout Otis to be the gold standard of maintenance and what we all should strive for. God Speed Joe, Say hello to Danny and Tom for me.

  13. My heart aches at the knowledge that the world has lost one of its greatest! The smile, the humor, the infamous twinkle of the eye, the family love, the artistry of his masterworks, the hospitable parties at the home, the love modeled to all who look upon as to how a family should live. … I could go on and on! I am blessed and honored to have been even a tiny part of such a life lived. My heart goes out to Aunt Kathy, Holly, Cindy, David & Jeff and all family who grieve this wonderful man. I would not miss out on bearing this burden with you and sharing this difficult time with you for anything!! Believe me when I say, To every rain shower there will one day be sun… To every heart break there will one day be a happiness… Psalm 73:26 says “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 46:1 says “God is our refuge and strength, and He is our ever-present help in times of trouble.”
Blessings to all and never forget to look for God’s little blessings around all the corners, even if the room is dark. I Pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding to come over you and surround you all at this time. Warmest regards, ~ Maria
