Simbartl

KAREL SIMBARTL age 90, beloved husband for 61 years of Linda (nee Hicks); loving father of Karel J. Simbartl (wife Loretta) and Karen Fantozzi (husband James); devoted grandfather of Katerina DiFranco (husband John), Anthony Fantozzi (fiancé Kiley Blazek), Jennifer Simbartl, Marine PFC Nicholas Simbartl, and soon to be great-grandfather; cherished son of the late Joseph and Marie Simbartl; loving brother to the late Joseph, Vaclav and Jan; fond brother-in-law of Susan Leonard; dear uncle and great uncle to many.

Karel Simbartl was born February 2, 1931 in Prichovice, Czech Republic and died peacefully in his sleep on December 22, 2021 in Mentor, OH.

He left the Czech Republic for Germany in 1948 to build a better life.  Karel made his way to Canada in 1950 and worked in the nickel mines. He finally was able to immigrate to the United States in 1960 where he met and married his wife Linda in 1961.

Karel worked as a machinist for Park Ohio Industries. He was handy and could fix anything and became an expert at fixing golf carts.  Karel loved animals, especially his grand dogs and grand cats, and was known by many as a real-life Dr. Doolittle.  He was an avid bird watcher, loved to feed them and entice different varieties to come to his feeders. Karel also enjoyed playing golf, specifically at the 9-hole course at Holiday Camplands. He was a devoted fan of Canadian hockey teams, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

Karel was outgoing and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was giving and generous with his time, loved to help others and had a wonderful sense of humor. Karel will be dearly missed by all.

Condolence from Barbara Ceglarski on December 26th, 2021 7:37 am

Our hearts are broken. We extend our warmest condolences to Linda and family. Upon getting to know Karel we soon realized he not only had a warm smile but that twinkle in his eyes was the clue to his wonderful sense of humor and behind those eyes a wealth of knowledge. The love and pride he had for Linda, his children and grandchildren was evident in how he spoke of them whenever he had the opportunity. He was a man of principles and a very very loyal friend. We miss him already, but carry the wonderful memories we were lucky enough to make with him in our hearts. He made a positive difference in our lives and we are so very grateful.
