Patty is a natural “helper” and caregiver which led her to joining DeJohn Funeral Homes as a Bereavement Specialist. While she admires the passion that her husband, Ross DeJohn Jr., has for funeral service, she wanted to be there for people after the funeral had ended. Her spiritually is core to her being and what she values in this life.
“When we bought the funeral home I never wanted to be a Funeral Director but I learned the business by watching the directors and helping out in many areas. I went back to school in the early 90’s for my Masters Degree in Clinical Counseling and began grief support groups in 1989,” said Patty.
After serving in private practice for 15 years she began working at the funeral home as a life coach.
She has always been attuned to the life energy around us and became a Reiki Master. For the past 20 years, she has practiced this energy healing and offers private sessions for anyone, from children to adults and seniors seeking a way to boost their energy.
Continuing to grow and will never leave her and feels she can always be a better person.
Patty loves her family and while it can be challenging working with her husband, Ross Jr, and son, Ross DeJohn III and now daughter, Melissa DeJohn Capretta… she wouldn’t have it any other way. She loves them and this ministry they call work. Though their youngest son is not in the business, he is a Guru in his own way.
“My greatest loves are my grandchildren and I want to make sure this world will be a good one for them… whatever that means, I will do my part. My goal is to leave this world a little better then when I entered it. To be able to be present emotionally for people in a very dark time is an honor and privilege for me,” added Patty.
She feels working with people who struggle everyday with depression and anxiety is both humbling and beautiful; especially when she gets to see the progress they make. She has mentored many souls on this journey and hopes to continue until the day she dies.
When not helping others, Patty enjoys films and movies and now binge watching her favorite series. She loves books (the real ones, not kindle) and is in two book clubs. She enjoys fine dining and their therapy dogs, Coco and Gio.
Patty said, “Without love and peace inside our soul what would be the point of this life??? We need to keep honoring our souls… they are gifts to us.”

Patricia: I received your name from Ross (your son). I was at DeJohn to look at the facility for my brother. I am in a doctorate program in Healthcare Administration. My topic is going to revolve around mental illness. I am not sure how much you have dealt with this population, but I was wondering if I could come to your facility to ask some questions, I am close to a specific research question but would like ideas.
Thank you
Kris

Dear Patty,
Thank you to DeJohn Funeral for the excellent attentive care my family and I were given by Funeral Director Constance Scheanon. She was so caring and sensitive to our concerns. We knew all would be well with her excellent attention and thoughtfulness. We feel blessed to have had her guidance and kindness,
