MLADEN LENGEL, age 89, beloved husband of Dusanka (nee Perlic); loving father of Mario (Therese) and Jennifer Bohana (Chuck); cherished son of the late Ivan and Nevenka (nee Komericki); treasured grandfather of Amanda Dusenbery (Joe) and AJ; a doting great grandfather to Harper Therese, Hazel Joe and Holland Phoenix; beloved uncle of Natalija Horvat and her daughter Nika; devoted brother of Lahorka (Jurica Horvat) and Vladimir (Gretel).
Mladen Lengel was born on September 18, 1933 in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. He brought his family, in the hope of a better life, to Cleveland in 1969. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Colinwood. He relished growing his vegetable garden and tending to his many flowering bushes and the fig tree. He was proud of his plum and pear trees and, like all respectable Croatians, used their fruit to distill his own rakija. Mladen loved soccer and was a devoted fan of the Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatian national teams.
He would tell you that some of the proudest and happiest days of his life were when his granddaughter and grandson were born and he would light up whenever spending time with them and his granddaughters. He loved the Christmas season and carried on his father’s tradition of decorating the Christmas tree with all white ornaments. He loved having friends over and celebrating the many occasions with them. Those who loved him describe him as honest to a fault and a devoted friend, willing to give the shirt off his back. They recall his love of singing and his joking and humorous nature. Mladen will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 21 at 10am at St. Mary of the Assumption in Collinwood. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Mladen at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91), THURSDAY, APRIL 20 FROM 4 TO 7PM.

God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place.
He then looked down on earth
and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
and lifted you to rest.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
get well on earth again.
He saw that the road was getting rough & the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
and whispered “peace be thine”.
It is sad to lose you
but you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
My deepest sympathy to you all
Gasper Sedmak (Sedmaks)
