Christie B. Godec

Christie B. Godec, a treasured soul who touched the hearts of many, embarked on her final archaeological dig through the sands of time on April 16, 2024, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, at the age of 79. Born Christie Blake on July 10, 1944, in Sacramento, California, she unearthed a life of kindness, passion, and the occasional dragon.

With a toothbrush in one hand and a dental pick in the other, Christie polished smiles for 42 years as a dental hygienist in Silver City, New Mexico. Once she hung up her dental bib, she dusted off her childhood dreams and delved into the world of archaeology at the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History. There, among fossils and friends, she found her second calling.

Christie's love for four-legged friends was fur-ever unbounded, and her homes were always a menagerie of wagging tails and purring companions. She cultivated beauty not only in her gardens, planting roses with the same care her father once did, but also in the lives she touched. A self-confessed bibliophile, Christie's adventures were as boundless as the pages she turned, with Tolkien and tales of fire-breathing creatures fueling her imagination. Her Pocket Dragon collection was not just extensive - it was legendary.

The legacy of Christie's gentle spirit is carried on by her own Fellowship: her brother Hal Blake, sister Jean Marie Hamilton, niece Anne Marie Hamilton-Brehm, daughter Ynez Henningsen, son Edward Godec, granddaughters Nadia and Amelia Godec, and great-granddaughter Zeppelin Arya. She journeys to the Undying Lands preceded by her parents, J. Warner and Joan Blake, and the many fur-babies who shared her life.

In lieu of flowers, Christie's family suggests planting a rose in your garden or curling up with a good book in her memory. After all, as Christie would say, "Every story has its end, but in life, every end is just a new beginning."
