Darcy M. Roediger suddenly passed on September 24th, 2024. Born in New Jersey to Edward (Ted) and Patricia Mitchell, she attended Morris Knolls High School where she excelled academically and as a varsity cheerleader. She was proud to represent her school for Girl State and be a member of the National Honor Society. Her favorite childhood memories were trips with her parents, older brother Edward (Teddy), younger brother Eric (Ricky) and family friends to Long Beach Island, NJ. She graduated with honors from Allegheny College where she continued cheerleading and met her husband, Bill. Married in 1975, Darcy moved to Bill's hometown near Cleveland, OH and they eventually settled in Gates Mills to raise their three kids, Wm. Eric, Kristin and Courtney. She loved being a mother more than anything and attended countless baseball games, horse shows, choir concerts and theatrical performances of questionable quality but always with a smile and her signature whistle to cheer them on.
Darcy was active in the community including fundraising events and supporting Gates Mills School as a PTA member and Basic Aid Training (BAT) instructor. One of Darcy's passions in life was helping students who learn differently reach their full potential while also raising awareness for adjusted curriculum and educational techniques for students that struggle in the confines of traditional education. She championed this cause by volunteering her time on the board of what would become Lawrence School in Broadview Heights, OH and remained proud of their growth and mission to help students.
Horses had captured Darcy's heart and soul from the moment she knew they existed. While she always wanted to learn to ride, she was never able as a child. It took a couple years of taking her daughters to their own riding lessons, but Darcy finally gathered the courage to tack up for herself and never looked back. She cherished her time with the animals she loved so much but it was the friendships she made that really made her heart smile. It was through the horse community that she learned how horses can help people of all ages with emotional, physical and cognitive challenges. Once again, Darcy answered the call for help and joined the Chagrin Valley PHA to put on the Chagrin Valley Hunter/Jumper Classic, a horse show at the Polo Fields benefiting the local therapeutic riding center at Fieldstone Farm. She truly loved the work and helping the students of Fieldstone Farm but could still be caught ringside, stealing a moment for herself, watching the competition instead.
In addition to her husband of 49 years, Bill, Darcy leaves behind 2 daughters and their husbands, Kristin and Nick Eskew and Courtney and Doug Logan, daughter-in-law Michelle Roediger, brother Rick Mitchell and three boogie boarding enthusiast grandchildren Mitchell J. Logan, Wm. Fletcher Logan and Julie P. Roediger that shared Grandma's love of the ocean. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Teddy and son, Wm. Eric Roediger.
The family will receive friends to celebrate Darcy's life from 11:30 - 1:30 on Saturday, October 5th at The DeJohn Funeral Home and Celebrations Center of Chesterland, 12811 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland, OH. To conclude the gathering, a celebration of life will follow. In lieu of flowers, please provide a donation to Lawrence School (https://www.lawrenceschool.org/) or Fieldstone Farm (https://www.fieldstonefarm.org/ ) in her honor.
