David L. Bortnick

DAVID L. BORTNICK age 82, beloved husband for 57 years of the late Barbara (nee Connick); loving father of Daniel (wife Karen), Gregory (wife Kimberly), Steven (wife Denise), and the late David Jr. and infant Timothy; devoted grandfather of Beau, Tyler, Shelby (Stephen) Clapacs, Alec, Mia (Jordan) Fisher, Sophia, Marco Sonny and great-grandfather of Brayden, Colson, Jude, Knox, and Remy Lee; cherished son of the late Peter, Sr. and Mary (nee Melnik); dearest brother of Pete, Jr (Liz), Jim (Marie, deceased), Don (Judy), Alice (Bob) Barbee, Doreen (Russ) Nelson, and the late Larry (Helen, deceased) and Bill (Cindy); dear brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle of many.

Those close to him remember David as a very social, gentle, and decent man who loved spending time with family and friends. Being a father and grandfather brought him untold happiness. He was born in Conneautville, Pennsylvania eventually settling with his high school sweetheart and wife, Barbara, in Cleveland where he enjoyed a twenty-five-year career at the American Bronze Corporation. He was a member at Body of Christ Community where he attended services as well as Shoregate United Methodist where he previously volunteered in many capacities. In his free time, he participated in the Thompson Prop Busters, building and flying model planes, volunteered at the Cleveland Food Bank, and previously was a regular blood donor.  Dave coached little league baseball teams in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. A lifelong fan of country western music, later in life he became a dedicated listener of the Sirius XM radio station The Bridge. He enjoyed casino trips to Erie, Pennsylvania and in his later years, enjoyed time and travel with sister-in-law, Helen. Dave most especially enjoyed the family tradition of making homemade pierogies that has been handed down to the next generations. When David was not volunteering or flying planes, he was the voice of reason for friends and loved ones, always making them feel special and welcome in his company.
