DOROTHY MEKKER (nee Koenig) age 87, beloved wife for 70 years of Joseph W.; loving mother of Dorothy M. Bauer (husband William), Joseph H. Mekker, Donna M. Lloyd (husband Brian) and David Mekker (wife Catherine (nee Eckert); devoted grandmother of William Bauer Jr. (wife Jessica), Michael Bauer (wife Janet), Justin Bauer, Brett Baldwin, Nicholas Baldwin, Michaela Mekker and great-grandmother of Sophie, Evelyn, William III, Madelyn, Matthew and Henry; cherished daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (nee Fink) Koenig; dearest sister of the late Herbert Koenig, Leona Kloczko, Frank Koenig, Marie Stewart, Cecilia Megas and George Koenig; dear sister-in-law, aunt and great-aunt of many.

Dorothy was born on November 5, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Holy Trinity High School. She lived in Chesterland for the last 44 years and was a member of St. Anselm Church. Dorothy was involved with the E.O.U.V, The Gottscheer Club and Szatmar Megyei Aid Club. She worked as a credit manager at Buckeye Rubber & Packing from 1972 through 1995. Dorothy enjoyed genealogy, traveling, camping, baking, gardening, and playing slots. She also enjoyed listening to music and dancing. Dorothy loved attending family reunions, picnics, holiday dinners, and taking her grandchildren on the Rapid Transit to downtown Cleveland. She found her greatest joy in car rides with her husband and cherished moments with family.  Many would say Dorothy was a hard worker, feisty, strong-willed, kind, loving, generous with a heart of gold and beautiful smile that would light up a room. She was very devoted to her faith. Dorothy passed away on September 29, 2023. She will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.

Contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Alzheimer’s Association. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at St. Anselm Catholic Church at 1 PM. Entombment following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Dorothy at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND, 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) MONDAY 4 – 8 PM.
