EDWARD J. MARTIN, II, age 86, beloved husband of the late MaryEllen (nee Popelka); loving father of Edward III (wife Barbara), Terrence (wife Elizabeth), David (wife Patricia) and Teresa “Tammy” Martin Kosier, (father-in-law of Eric Kosier); devoted grandfather of Matthew (wife Courtney), Peter (wife Katie), Andrew (fiancé Julia Lane), Edward (wife Emily), Cpt. Ryan USAF (wife Claire), Lindsay, Zachary, Oliver (Maya Gompper), Sophia Henderson (husband Zachary), Luke, David, Abigail, Madeline and Avery; great-grandfather of Camden, Samuel and Macrae; cherished son of the late Edward I and Josephine (nee Kovalik); dearest brother of Barbara Linden (husband Ronald), Judy Popelka (husband Thomas) and the late William (wife Dolores).
Born on June 23, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio, Edward graduated from Benedictine High School in 1956, continued his education at Case Institute of Technology and then Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he earned his PhD. This intelligent, hard-working gentleman was a consulting environmental engineer and the author and reviewer of technical textbooks in his field of expertise. Always one to keep his mind engaged, he enjoyed the New York Times crossword puzzles (Sunday in pen), dedicated coach and mentor of a myriad of sports, Director of the St. Helen chess club, an avid reader, especially of mysteries, and had particular interest in Model HO Railroads.
Edward’s family and faith were the cornerstone of his life. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the laughter and love he shared with friends and family. Memories are a blessing, which will be cherished in his family’s hearts and help guide them through the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend of many.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 7, 2025 at St. Helen Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township, OH 44026 at 10AM. Luncheon immediately following at St. Helen. Private burial at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Edward at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) FRIDAY, June 6, 4-7PM.
