Ellen was a graduate of Brush High School, class of 1971 and went on to Notre Dame College in Ohio. Outside of teaching, Ellen enjoyed cheering on Cleveland sports and Notre Dame University. She also enjoyed rooting for The Ohio State University with her husband. Ellen also loved to dance whenever she would get the chance.
