George A. Bates

GEORGE A. BATES age 86, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023; beloved husband of Mary (Coyne) (nee Wirsing) and the late Mary Roberta (nee Koenig); loving father of Christine (deceased), Bridgette Skaff (David), George (Jennifer), Robert (Elisabeth), and stepfather of Patricia Lannan, John Coyne (Anne-Marie), Julie Ford (James) and Daniel Coyne; devoted grandfather of 15 grandchildren; cherished son of the late Frank and Ella (nee Miller); dearest brother of Ann Kittle (Michael Kelly) and Frank (Joyce); dear brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle of many.

George graduated in 1956 from Gilmour Academy and the University of Dayton in 1960. He went into the banking industry and was a Vice President, Private Banking at Huntington Bank. George was devoted to his Catholic faith and his family.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 18205 Chillicothe Rd, Chagrin Falls, OH at 1:00 PM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of George at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) FRIDAY from 4-7 PM AND SATURDAY MORNING from 12 NOON UNTIL MASS AT THE CHURCH.
