George Scharlott

George Fredric Scharlott, age 86, of Wickliffe, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Beloved son of the late Raymond W. and Mary LaVerne (nee Sahle) Scharlott. He was born and raised in East Cleveland before moving to Cleveland Heights, where he and his family made their home for 64 years. More recently, George and his wife, Eileen (nee Hine), moved to an assisted living in Wickliffe.

George served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga. After returning from military service, he worked as a patrolman in East Cleveland before beginning a long career with General Electric at Nela Park. He retired on his 60th birthday as manager of plant protection for GE Lighting in 1999.

George and Eileen shared an enjoyment of pleasures — day trips together, completing word-search puzzles, and caring for their home, which was a source of great pride. George approached life with optimism and gratitude, living each day to the fullest.

Beloved husband of Eileen (nee Hine) of 65 years; loving father of Deborah (Jamie Turner) and Brooke (WooYoung Chung). He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond W. and Mary LaVerne, and his brother, Raymond A.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or Cleveland Clinic Hospice.

Private service will take place at Knollwood Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to DeJohn Funeral Homes & Crematory.
