Gertrude M. Dobay

GERTRUDE M. DOBAY (nee Abramovich) age 94, beloved wife for 72 years of the late James A. Dobay; loving mother of Jim (Barb), Jeff (Sylvia), and Denise Dobay; devoted grandmother of Bridget, Jamie (Jenna), Jeremy (Nallem) and Jarrod; devoted great-grandmother of Garrett, Grace, Andrew (Ariel), Jack, Jayden, Jace, Max, Johan and Jameson; loving great-great grandmother of Alice; cherished daughter of the late Charles and Mary (nee Spollar) Abramovich; dearest sister of the late Charles, Veronica Bass (Ken, deceased), Edward (Ann, deceased), Rudolph (Dolly, deceased), and Maryanne Abramovich; beloved aunt and friend of many.

Born in Gates, Pennsylvania, Gertrude later settled in Cleveland where she graduated from East High School. She met her soulmate, James, during a train ride to Conneaut, Pennsylvania. Together they shared 72 years of marriage, residing in Highland Heights since 1969. Gertrude’s devotion to her family and faith preceded everything else. She was a long-time member of St. Paschal’s Catholic Church. Gertrude was an accomplished crafter, even making her own hand-made Christmas tree ornaments, sewed many of her own clothes, and loved spending time outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Gertrude enjoyed listening to polka music, playing bingo, and was an avid Cleveland Indians/Guardian’s baseball fan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Gertrude to Mount St. Joseph Rehab Center, 21800 Chardon Rd., Euclid, OH 44117. 

Mass of Christian Burial SATURDAY, March 7, 2026 at St. Paschal Catholic Church, 5384 Wilson Mills Rd, Highland Heights, OH 44143, at 10:30 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Gertrude at DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY March 6, 2026 4:00-8:00 PM.
