Gloria Gilles

October 27, 1937 — February 11, 2026

Gloria Gilles (nee Colananni), died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 11, 2026. She was the cherished daughter of the late Alexander and Anatolia (nee Righetti); dearest sister of the late Paul (Helen, dec.)

She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Jerry; loving mother of Michael, Michelle, Jacqueline Nero (Nick), and Renee Parks; and devoted Nana of Alexander, Anthony, Aiden, Angelena (Tim), Carlena, Dominick, Gianna, Jaclyn, Joseph, and Christopher. Dear Aunt, Great Aunt, Godmother and friend of many.

Gloria was born in Salem, Ohio where her parents immigrated to from Italy. She graduated from Salem High School and then attended The Ohio State University. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority where she met her beloved husband, Jerry. After earning her degree, starting her career in Physical Therapy and getting married, Gloria and Jerry laid down roots in Richmond Heights, where they raised their four children. Together they built their dream home in Chesterland where they moved in 1989. Jerry has always referred to her as his ‘dark haired beauty’. The rock in his life, and constant support, he was proud to be her husband and admired her strength.

Gloria was a loving and gentle mother who cultivated very close relationships with each of her children. She and Jerry provided constant support to their family in a home overflowing with laughter and love.

Gloria was a trailblazer in the field of Physical Therapy, a respected pioneer whose work touched countless lives. Yet, of all her accomplishments, the title she treasured most was “Nana”. Gloria created a legacy of love that will live on through her children and grandchildren, each one holding a uniquely treasured place in her heart. As Nana, she was their greatest champion-cheering the loudest on the court, standing proudly on the sidelines of the field, smiling brightly from every audience seat, and supporting them wholeheartedly in life. She will always be remembered for the love of her family.

Together with Jerry, they traveled extensively throughout the world. One of her most memorable trips was to her parent’s hometown in Italy.

Gloria was a true animal lover filling her home with whatever pets her kids and grandkids brought to the door. She enjoyed hosting the holidays with family and friends where everyone was welcome.

An impromptu gathering at her kitchen table meant shared coffee, something sweet, a listening ear, a hysterical laugh, the aroma of sauce and the treasured wisdom of a woman loved by all.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Gloria to Rescue Village HERE.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeJohn Funeral Home & Celebration Center, 12811 Chillicothe Road, Chesterland OH 44026. Private services will be held at a later date.
