Helen Johnson

HELEN JOHNSON (nee Mukavetz) age 92, beloved wife of Donald; loving mother of Barbara Flood (husband Allen), Judy Dunn (husband Tim), Nancy (husband Robbie Gilmore Jr.); loved grandmother of Kevin Dunn, Bobby Dunn (wife Abbi), Erik Dunn (Sarah), Kayla Dunn (husband Brendan), and Ana Flood; dearest sister of the late Mary Martinac (husband Edward, deceased ), and the late John Mukavetz (wife Josephine, deceased, wife Mary, deceased), cherished aunt and friend.

Helen was born in Calumet, Michigan on August 7, 1930 and passed away November 17, 2022 in Mentor, Ohio. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio as a child with her parents, John and Anna Mukavetz, brother John, and sister Mary, all of whom predeceased her, but never forgot the beautiful Upper Peninsula of her childhood. While she had a successful career after graduating from high school, her focus upon marriage was building a life with her husband, who loved telling everyone how his life started when he met her. Together they created a loving home for their three children, first in Willowick and then for the last 53 years in Willoughby. With her gentle nature she attracted the love and loyalty of many pets, who she cared for with devotion. Helen left her mark in a myriad of places outside the home as well, from her volunteer work at Browning Elementary School and King Instruments, her later work at Macy’s and then Dillard’s, to her presence at the local YMCA. She will be sorely missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for a Celebration of Life Service Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 11 AM at DeJohn Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Helen at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91)  Wednesday from 10AM until time of service.
