Ivo was a proud U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran. Contributions may be made in memory of Ivo to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
Ivo Tombazzi was born in Italy and came to the United States at the age of 19 years old, and served during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952 with a Honorable Discharge. He graduated from the Cleveland Engineering Institute in 1954 and began his career in ornamental metals. In 1976, Ivo started his own business, TOMCO METAL FABRICATING INC. which was a family business with his wife Veronica and two sons, Louis and Frank. He became very well known in the metal business, not only in Cleveland but also in surrounding areas, for quality and service of this unique business. Ivo’s projects can be seen everywhere, especially in Cleveland – the SPIRE ON SOCIETY TOWER (which was given reviews on all local TV stations and newspapers), The Galleria, South Park, Palace Theater, Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University, the beautiful stage at Severance Hall, and the Star Spangled Banner Flag Table at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. These are just a few projects that are part of Ivo’s legacy. Tomco received over 80 awards from Builders Exchange for outstanding craftsmanship on various projects. Tomco and his family were his greatest accomplishments. In the year 2000, he turned the business over to his two sons that have been with him from the beginning. His dream was to own his own business and to treat his employees fairly. This accomplishment was very important to him. His work will be seen for many years to come and his impossible dream became a reality. Ivo will be remembered as a hardworking, innovative, creative and very dedicated man to his work, his wife and his family. Ivo was his wife’s Hero throughout their life. For the past 10 years, he was Veronica’s dedicated and loving caregiver as she suffered with Alzheimer’s. His legacy will live on as a Hero to so many!
