John J. Amato

JOHN J. AMATO, JR., age 78; cherished son of the late John J., Sr. and Gladys Amato (nee Lawler); dearest brother of Kathy Catalano (husband Vince deceased) and the late David Amato (wife Judy); dear uncle of David, Jr. and Daniel Amato, Paul and Michael Catalano; great uncle and great-great uncle of many.

John was born on March 2, 1948 in Cleveland. He graduated from Willoughby South in 1966 and went on to attend Lakeland Community College and Bowling Green State University. He had a long career as a quality control inspector.

He enjoyed holidays with his family, snow skiing, traveling and making wine. He could also be found cheering on the Cleveland Guardians. John was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus Gilmour Council #310.

John was a great guy, easy-going, social and friendly. He had a great sense of humor and a strong devotion to his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of John to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Prayers of Christian Burial Friday, May 15, 2026 at NOON at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at All Souls. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of John at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) FRIDAY MORNING 10AM - 12NOON.
