JOHN T. KOCEVAR age 91, former Mayor of South Euclid for 12 years and South Euclid City councilman for 9 years went to be with our Lord on January 20, 2026, surrounded by and in the arms of his beloved wife and children.
Beloved husband for 68 years to his love Theresa “Terry” (nee Svoboda); loving father of Marilyn, Lisa Neelon (husband John), Barbara Zinner (husband Paul) and John (wife Debbie); devoted grandfather of Kristy Morelli (husband Mike), Peter Neelon (wife Annie), Karie Murphy (husband Brian), Joseph “Bo” Zinner, Jennifer, Kaitlin (deceased) and Jack; doting great-grandfather of Samantha, Gabriella, Amelia, Reese, Carter and Noah; cherished son of the late John “Jack” and Rose (nee Zala); dearest brother of Barbara Holder (husband Neall deceased), dear brother-in-law of Virginia Roach (husband Larry deceased), and the late Raymond and Betty Svoboda, and Richard Svoboda (wife Cathryn); dear uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.
John graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1952 and Western Reserve University with a bachelor’s degree in 1956. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, as well of the South Euclid Lions Club. At church, he served as an Usher, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and President of the parish council. Prior to becoming elected as Mayor, John worked in the clothing manufacturing business and even moved to Hong Kong for a 2-year work assignment. After his term as Mayor, John’s strong work ethic led him to his 12-year career with the IRS, ultimately retiring at 85. Above all, John loved his family and the pride he had for everyone of them was evident throughout his life.
John will be remembered for being social, friendly, determined, and hardworking, with a sense of humor. He was deeply devoted to his family, faith, and community as a public servant.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday January 26, 2026, at 10 AM in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 1545 S. Green Rd., South Euclid.
Burial following at All Souls Cemetery.
