JOYCE A. COHEN (nee Marks) age 87; loving mother of Lori J. and Joel (Lori Pierce-Cohen) Cohen; devoted nana of Robert Cohen; cherished daughter of the late Albert and Rose (nee Ladsky) Marks; dearest sister of the late Joan Kadis; dear aunt of Lee and Cheryl Kadis and beloved caretaker of her many pets.
Joyce was born on July 1, 1938, in Port Jervis, New York, to Albert and Rose. She graduated from Church Street High School before venturing into the world of higher education by attending and graduating from Syracuse University with her bachelor's in education. Joyce's career journey took her to Mountain View California, where she found a job as a librarian. She brought two wonderful children into the world, and as long as her kids were happy, Joyce was happy too. Her own happiness came from seeing her kids grow up happily and create happy families of their own. And when her grandson was born, Joyce found happiness in making him just as happy as she made her own children. Joyce had an adventurous spirit and loved the outdoors, especially when she could spend time around a good bonfire. She enjoyed hiking in the woods as well as driving and hiking through the Catskills Mountains in upstate New York to visit its scenic waterfall. As a fan of live music, Joyce was a regular listener at concerts in the park, with her favorite genres being swing and polka. She had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate. Some of her favorite treats were chocolate ice cream, fudgesicles, and M&Ms. Joyce could best be described as a happy go lucky woman and an early bird who also loved feeding the birds! She loved all animals, big and small, but especially cats. Joyce took great care of the many pets throughout her life and treated them as if they were just another member of her family. Above all, she always loved her family. Joyce passed away on October 28, 2025, and will be dearly missed by all those who got the chance to know her.
Contributions may be made in memory of Joyce to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116-7023 or online HERE. A private celebration of life service will be held sometime in the spring. Cremation entrusted to DeJohn Crematory. Arrangements by THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS.
