Lawrence Patrick O'Malley, born on October 24, 1947, in Cleveland, OH, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and joy. Larry was a beloved husband to wife Nancy O'Malley (nee Misciasci) for 53 years and was a devoted father to his son Patrick (wife Beverly) and daughter Michelle O’Malley (husband Matthew Helgeson). He treasured being a grandfather to Shannon & Connor O'Malley, Elliott and twins Mia and Lucas Helgeson, pouring his love and wisdom into each of their lives. He was a cherished son of the late Patrick J. and Ruth (nee Friedman) O’Malley. Survived by his 5 sisters Maureen Weigand (husband Richard deceased), Ruthanne Kennedy (husband Donald), Peggy O'Malley (husband Tom Murray), Patricia Bunce (husband Richard), and Mary Kay O'Malley; admired brother-in-law of Barbara & the late Louis Dylag, Frank & and the late Sue Misciasci, Peter & Frances Misciasci, Amelia & Michael Misciasci-Gongwer and the late Patricia Czarny (husband Jeff); dear uncle and great uncle of many.
A born educator, Larry believed strongly in the value of education. After receiving his diploma from St. Joseph High School in 1965, he attended Cleveland Community College before graduating from Cleveland State University in 1970.
Larry's passion for education and real estate shaped his remarkable career. He touched the lives of many as an 8th-grade math teacher at Roehm Middle School in Berea, sharing his love of math and teaching his students various tricks that made learning enjoyable. Simultaneously, Larry excelled as one of Cleveland's best real estate agents, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others find and afford their home.
Beyond his professional life, Larry enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, notably participating in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2009. He was a dedicated Cleveland sports fan and barely missed a televised game. His lighthearted nature and ability to connect with people were evident in every aspect of his life. Larry will be remembered not just for his accomplishments but for the laughter and love he brought to every gathering.
Larry’s family and faith was the cornerstone of his life. He will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Larry to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 2, 2025 at 10AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6850 Mayfield Road, Gates Mills, OH. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Larry at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON RD. (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) THURSDAY 3-5 AND 6-8PM.
