MARILYN H. MADIGAN (née Hausser) age 93, beloved wife for 37 years of the late Joseph; loving mother of Terence (wife Mary Sue), David (Crystal Zuk), and Megan Roche (husband Thomas); devoted grandmother of Joseph (wife Amanda), Amanda, and Sean Madigan, Nora Deveney, Brendan, Thomas, and Elizabeth Roche and great-grandmother of eight; cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Kathleen (née Foster) Hausser; dearest sister of the late Janet Taylor (husband Thomas, deceased); dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.
Marilyn spent her early years in University Heights before moving to Shaker Heights as a young girl. She attended Gesu School and later graduated from Beaumont High School in 1951. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree from Notre Dame College in 1955. In 1956, she married her husband, Joseph, whom she had known since their grade school days, beginning a devoted partnership that endured until his death in 1993.
Marilyn’s greatest joy and proudest role was being a mother. After facing the heartbreak of being unable to have children, she embraced adoption with deep gratitude, welcoming her children with open arms and an unwavering devotion that defined her life. She carried that same love into her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother; treasuring time spent with her family.
Marilyn was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home. Gracious and social by nature, she loved to entertain family and friends and was known for hosting both intimate gatherings and larger dinner parties with ease and elegance. Through her husband’s work in public relations, she helped host events for his clients, including many local figures, and had a natural gift for making every guest feel comfortable. She had a keen interest in interior design, was an avid reader, and remained a dedicated fan of the Cleveland Indians.
Marilyn was a woman of deep and abiding faith, a devoted Catholic who found comfort and guidance in her devotion to St. Anthony. She was a lifelong member of Gesu Parish, where she received every sacrament, and remained devoted to her parish community even after moving to Auburn Township more than 25 years ago—something she felt was deeply important to maintain.
She was a member of the Shaker Heights Country Club, the Garden Club, the Gesu Woman’s Guild. She enjoyed traveling to Naples, Florida for many years connecting with life long friends and making new ones.
