MARIO LIUZZO age 90, owner and operator of Mario’s International Spa, Hotel, and Restaurant; beloved husband for 55 years of Joanne (nee Douglass); loving father of Sherri Greve (husband Joseph); devoted grandfather of Sarah Keller (husband Michael) and Gregory Greve (wife Lindsey), and great-grandfather of Emma, Cameron, and Connor; cherished son of the late Anthony and Luminata Liuzzo; dearest brother of Mary Liuzzo and the late Joseph (wife Shirelee, deceased), Carmella DeJohn (husband Deacon Ross Sr., deceased), Anthony, and Nancy Mazzone (husband Biago, deceased); treasured godson of the late Giacomo and Nunzia Leanza; dear uncle of Ross & Patty DeJohn, Michael DeJohn (wife Cathy, deceased), Robert & Lori DeJohn, Carla & Michael Prusak, Christine & James D’Alessandro, Michael & Joy Liuzzo, Jolene & Daniel Greve, and the late Nancy Liuzzo, and great-uncle of 16 and great-great-uncle of 11; fond cousin and friend of many.

Mario was born in Cleveland on September 1, 1931 and passed away on May 9, 2022. He graduated from John Adams High School in 1949, and then the Cleveland Academy of Cosmetology. He was a resident of Aurora for 40 years, previously of Brecksville and Maple Heights, and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, where he was active as an usher. Mario was well-known as the owner and operator of Mario’s International Spa, Hotel, & Restaurant. He studied his craft in Chicago and Toronto, and was the former U.S. president of Haute Coiffure in Paris. Mario was a successful leader in the Beauty Industry, bringing the latest seasonal hairstyling trends from Europe to Ohio. He had many television appearances showing his artistry in hair design and was the winner of many awards in his industry. As a businessman he operated 8 Beauty Spas, 3 hotels/inns, and 4 restaurants locally as well as a Canadian Spa and Inn on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada. His travels took him to London, Paris and Florence. Mario was a Cleveland sports fan and an avid collector of Lionel model trains and classic cars, and there wasn’t a sports car that he didn’t own or drive. Mario was social and kind, as well as caring and gentle. He was easy-going and happy-go-lucky with a keen sense of humor. Mario was hard-working and always making sure his customers were happy, and he will be missed by those he loved and served. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mario to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 342 S. Chillicothe Rd. in Aurora. Entombment following at All Saints Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Mario at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) SUNDAY 1-6 PM.
