Milica Gumsey

Milica Gumsey (nee Lorbek) age 102, beloved wife of the late Karl; loving mother of Brigita Gumsey (Allan Ficci) and Karl R. Gumsey (Bernadette); devoted grandmother of Kyla DiLalla (Charlie) and Zachary Gumsey, and great grandmother of Lillian Clark and Milli DiLalla; cherished daughter of the late Terezija and Rudi Lorbek; treasured sister of the late Marija Vrecl and Rudi and Jose Lorbek; dearest aunt to Majda Zorman (Ludvik), Martha Caruso (Frank), the late Tina Humeston (Rich); admired grand aunt to Kira Higgins (Josh), Erica Caruso (Jerry Rupert), Maria Silva (Marcos), Sam Humeston, Matt Humeston, and Mike Humeston, and great aunt to Daniel Higgins, Rocco and Harvey Silva and Ivy Rupert.

Milli was born September 17, 1923 and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded with the love of her family on September 21, 2025. She came to the United States from Slovenia in 1949 after the war and settled in the Slovenian Community near her parish at St. Vitus Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where she met her future husband Karl and raised her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who expressed her love by baking potica, strudel, Russian pastry and her coveted “moon cookies” as well as her famous fried chicken.

Milli was a constant source of optimism and kindness and was selfless in the care of those she loved. She was an example of courage and endurance to her family and friends. She enjoyed mowing the lawn into her early 90’s, her beautiful flower garden, bird watching, and was a best friend and constant companion to her beloved dog Athena. All adored her, and her caring spirit drew people in and made them feel loved. She will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Milli to St. Vitus Church, 6019 Lausche Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44103.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2:00-5:00 at Zevnik-Cosic Funeral Home 28890 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills, OH 44092. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 29, 2025, from 11:00AM-12PM at St. Vitus Church, 6019 Lausche Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44103. Please meet at Church.
