MYUNG GENE LEE, Ph.D. (이명진) age 82, beloved husband for 52 years of Joanne Lee (nee. Yoon); loving father of June Whittaker (Matthew) and Yune Lee (Jordan Welty); devoted grandfather of Bobby, Lily, and Charlie Whittaker and Eleanor Lee Welty; cherished son of the late Sam Joo and Myung Soo (nee Suh); dear uncle, great-uncle, and friend of many. Myung Gene Lee was born to parents Sam Joo Lee and Myung Soon Suh on December 25, 1942, in Seoul South Korea. He attended Kyunggi Middle and High School and decided to continue his education at Seoul National University, where he studied Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering. After graduating from Seoul National University with his bachelors, he served in the Republic of Korea Army for two years, where he worked at the Ordnance School as an instructor and aide-de-camp. He emigrated to the United States, where he attended the University of Florida to receive his master's and Ph.D. in chemical engineering, becoming a Postdoctoral Researcher after graduation. Myung moved to Cleveland Ohio, where he was employed as the Sr. Process Engineer at Davy McKee Corp. from 1978-1982. He went on to become the Program Manager at Life Systems, Inc. from 1983-1996, before taking the position of Country Manager at Raytheon in Korea from 1996-2004. He married his beloved wife Jungboon Yoon (aka Joanne Lee) in 1973, and had two daughters, June and Yune. Myung loved to tell stories and make people laugh, especially his late wife Joanne. Along with being a devoted husband and father, Myung was also devoted to his local community. He was the Principal at Cleveland Korean School, a Deacon at Korean Central Presbyterian Church for 10 years, and a regular volunteer at the Korean Senior Citizens Association. He also enjoyed travelling, golfing, gardening, and painting. Myung Gene Lee passed away peacefully at his home in Pepper Pike, Ohio, on September 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy as an intelligent and hard-working man who loved his family.
