Phyllis Marie Sablack

PHYLLIS MARIE SABLACK (nee Smith), passed away at age 90 on November 21, 2025. Known for her beauty and glamorous style, quick mind, incredible work ethic, kindness, confidence, and love of her family, Phyllis also enjoyed the theatre, the beach, spending time with her grandchildren, laughing, and having fun. She was the loving mother of Melissa Sablack and Michael Sablack (wife Nikki); devoted grandmother of Miles Gonzalez, Jake Sablack, Daniel Gonzalez, and Tyler Sablack; dear sister of the late Frances Peters, Amelia Gray Harmon, and Roger Smith; fond aunt of Marie Peters, and Philip, John, and Daniel Harmon.

Phyllis was born on April 6, 1935, in Forsyth County, NC, the youngest child of Harvey Melvin and Bonnie Peddycord Smith. Following her graduation from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA, she worked for the federal government in Washington, DC and pursued modeling.

In 1963, she married Sam Sablack and began a beautiful life together, finding their greatest joy in raising their two children. While their paths diverged, the deep connection they shared never truly faded. They maintained a steady friendship, remaining a wonderfully united front as loving grandparents.

In the early 1970s, seeing a need for early childhood education and with a deep love for little ones, Phyllis started her own preschool. In years to come, Young Horizons Preschool expanded into daycare and opened four different locations. She ended her career as an office manager at the Healthy Smile Dental Offices.

Her sister Gray described her like this:

"An exceptionally pretty girl, Phyl grew into a tall slim young woman with green eyes and blonde hair. Blessed with abundant energy and vitality, she is also generous, kind and empathetic."

She will be truly missed by the many who knew and loved her.

An open house for family and friends to celebrate and remember Phyllis is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the home of her son Michael and his wife Nikki, located at 9733 Firelands Dr., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
