Born on February 26, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio, Robert was a lifelong resident of Cuyahoga County. He attended St. John Nepomucene for grade school and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, where he developed the values that guided him throughout his life.
A man of strong faith, Robert was an active member of St. John Nepomucene, St. Pascal’s, and St. Gregory the Great Parish, now Sacred Heart of Jesus. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved in the Catholic Men’s Fellowship Group. He also dedicated time to volunteering, including serving Thanksgiving meals at St. Augustine Hunger Center and assisting at the food pantry at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, stationed in Korea. He was inducted on November 14, 1967, and honorably discharged on June 19, 1969. As a Private First Class with Troop C, 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, 2nd Infantry Division, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device for valor. On September 19, 1968, during a patrol that entered an unmarked minefield, Robert risked his life to assist a wounded fellow soldier to safety, an act of heroism that saved the soldier’s life.
Following his military service, Robert built a career marked by integrity and hard work. He held several positions over the years, beginning as a newspaper delivery boy in his youth and ultimately serving as a Compliance Auditor for the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, where he retired.
Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy. He was known for his kindness, humility, and generosity, and for his commitment to taking care of others.
In his free time, Robert enjoyed dancing and was known for his playful spirit and sense of humor, often entertaining family and friends with his air guitar.
His life reflected a deep commitment to faith, family, service, and community, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
