SAM J. SYRACUSE, Jr., age 63; of Kirtland, entered God’s hands on Nov. 13, 2012, at home, surrounded by family, after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Cleveland on April 26, 1949 to Sam and Alma Syracuse. Sam was a 1968 graduate from Euclid High School. He was active in football, wrestling and track. Sam broke many school athletic records, at that time. Sam worked in his family’s business, SS Construction for many years, taking on numerous job responsibilities. Sam operated heavy machinery, drove large trucks and tractors, worked in the office as book keeper, accountant, office manager and vice president.
Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and liked staying close to home. From Heaven above, he will continue to watch over his devoted and loving wife, Joan and his beautiful loving daughters, Samantha and Angela. Sam is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Gary Baur; aunt Rosemary Hayes; nephews, Gary (Renee) Baur, Brian Baur and Mark Baur; great-nieces, Sydney, Erin and Selena; great-nephew Angelo. He will also be missed by his many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Alma Syracuse, uncles Vetus Syracuse (Rose), Phil Syracuse (Helen), and Herman Hayes, and aunt Kay Scolaro (Joseph). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute 2022 East 105th Street Cleveland, Ohio 44106. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 9:30 AM. Burial following in All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Sam at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) on FRIDAY from 3:00 to 8:00 PM
