SAMUEL G. BARR passed away peacefully at his home in Willoughby Hills on February 1, 2026.
Born May 12, 1934, in Beaverdale PA, to the late Alexander and Carmella (née Nastase). Sam was one of four siblings.
Samuel briefly attended Penn State University majoring in accounting.
He relocated to Cleveland and then settled in Willoughby Hills. There he raised his family of seven children with his wife Jane.
Samuel became a Freemason joining the Grotto organization.
He enjoyed golf, tennis, and in earlier years pitching baseball.
Upon retiring from Grinnell corporation, he became co-owner of Sammy's Lounge in Euclid OH.
Sam and Jane purchased a home in Naples FL., becoming Snowbirds for 35 + years
Samuel is survived by the love of his life, Jane (née Irvin) to whom he was married for 72 years. His children: Renae (Steven) Lesiak of TN, Barbara (Mario) Barr-Rodney of OH, Kevin (Linda) Barr of OH, Nancy (Bill) Salem of OH, Dudley (Beverly) Barr of TN, Cynthia (Rick) Grim of PA, and Sally (Larry Davis) Boggess of OH. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and the newest addition, a great great granddaughter. Sam also leaves behind his dear and faithful youngest brother, John (Vicki) Barr of TX. He will be missed by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends whom he dearly cherished.
Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Alexander and Carmella (nee Nastase) Barr, his eldest brother, Lieutenant Colonel James (Mattie) Barr, his sister Marie (Frank, deceased) Mehall, infant son, Douglas George Barr, son-in-law Joel Negrelli, son-in-law Robert Boggess, and some of his dear long-time friends.
A private family viewing was held Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home, 28890 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094 prior to his cremation.
A celebration of Sam's life is to be held Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 1PM – 5PM at LaVera Party Center, 32200 Chardon Road, Willoughby Hills, OH 44094.
Family and friends are invited to come and join together in remembrance and celebration of Sam's legacy.
DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home of Willoughby Hills assisted the family with cremation and arrangements.
