Sandra Ann Grisez, 73, passed away on September 23, 2024 at peace and with her husband of 52 years by her side. Sandy was a devoted daughter, loving wife, tireless mom, doting grandma, generous friend, and force of nature. And like any force of nature, she made her mark. Those who knew her will never forget her.
Born on June 5, 1951 to Louis and Josephine Simenc and raised in Euclid, Ohio, she married Don Grisez, her high school sweetheart, in 1972. Together they had six children: Dan (Barb), Meghan, Barry (Heather), Pat (Tory Doles), Kevin (Kim), and Casey (Jess). Her six grandchildren, Meghan, Erin, Teddy, Roger, Fitz, and Lou, were the light of her life. Grandma Cookie was the first to offer not only cookies, but also a giant meal and her trademark "hiya, kiddo!" hugs.
Sandy is survived by her husband, five boys, six grandchildren, and brothers Tim (Sue) and Tom (Bridget) Simenc. Preceding her in death are her parents, brothers Bob (Lynn) and Rich (Teri) Simenc, and only daughter, Meghan.
Whether she was expressing love, joy, gratitude, or sympathy, countless people will remember Sandy for her cookie platters. And her warmth will be felt for years - her homemade, personalized blankets span time zones and walks of life.
Sandy was known for family, food, and flowers - a full table, her famous meatballs, and a coveted garden. Nobody can speak for the food or flowers, but her family loves her to the moon, will miss her daily, and is grateful for the time they had with her.
The Wizard of Oz said, "A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others." By that and any other measure, Sandy's life was a triumph.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network https://pancan.org.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave, Mentor, OH at 10:00 AM. Burial following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Sandy at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS, 28890 CHARDON ROAD (between Bishop Rd. and Rt. 91) FRIDAY 3-7 PM.
