Wilbur R. Messenger

June 22, 1931 — December 6, 2025

WILBUR RAY MESSENGER, aged 94 years, beloved husband for 49 years to the late Josephine (nee Mongelluzzi), dear father of David E. Messenger and Debra L. Passerallo; loving grandfather of Ryan and Rachel Passerallo and Zachary Messenger (Natalia); devoted son of the late Earl C. and Gertrude (nee Platz) Messenger; cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. United States Air Force Veteran (1951–1955).

Mr. Messenger retired in 1991 after 35 years with Ameritrust. Ray was a generous and kind-hearted man, he devoted much of his later years in life to caring for others. He was a dedicated caregiver to both his beloved wife and his mother during their times of illness, offering them unwavering love, patience, and support.

His children and grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them and watching them grow. He was endlessly proud of his family and loved them unconditionally, never missing an opportunity to share stories of their accomplishments.

A proud Air Force veteran, he loved reminiscing about his days in service, happily telling stories to anyone willing to listen.

He had many hobbies. He loved working with his hands, and could often be found tinkering around the house, discovering new projects and taking pride in every task he accomplished. He also loved to read, and it was common to find him settled comfortably in his favorite chair with a book or a word search puzzle in hand. Regular trips to the library and friendly conversations at his favorite coffee shop were cherished parts of his routine, where he often formed new friendships. An avid bowler, he enjoyed many years on bowling leagues, finding not only fun and friendly competition but also lasting camaraderie with teammates. Visits and lunches with close friends brought him immense joy and happiness. He truly cherished these friendships and valued the time spent with those who held a special place in his heart.

Professionally, he spent 35 years in the banking industry, a career marked by dedication, integrity, and hard work, before retiring in 1991.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his humility, and his gentle spirit. His legacy lives on in the hearts of the countless lives he touched—most of all, in the family he loved, and who loved him beyond measure.
