William J. “Bill” Edwards

Mr. William J. (Bill) Edwards, age 78, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother, was called to his eternal resting place on August 19, 2022.

Bill was born on May 10, 1944, in Uniontown, PA born to William and Betty Edwards. Bill married his loving wife, Eileen of 51 years on September 3, 1971, in Oakmont, PA. Bill and Eileen made their home and raised their family in South Euclid for 27 years where he served as President of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst school board before moving to Chagrin Falls in 2002.

He is survived by his spouse Eileen Edwards; son William J. “Trey” Edwards (Jennifer) and their children Benjamin, Zachary and Lauren; son Jason Edwards (Stacey) and their children Jason and Owen; sister Nancy Chepkevich; sister Barbara Helsley-Munson.

Bill graduated from Oakmont High School in Oakmont, PA then went on to Marietta College and earned a law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He went on to serve as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Boston and New York field offices for three years. He spent the rest of his career serving the Northern District of Ohio as an Assistant United States Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, First Assistant United States Attorney and United States Attorney where he made several lifelong friends. He was respected and admired across the country and proudly served the United States Department of Justice for 40 years.

Bill thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. If he was not in his recliner enjoying the latest crime novel or movie, he was at one of his grandchildren’s sporting events. Bill’s grandkids were his pride and joy.  He spent his retirement cheering them on in baseball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse and volleyball. Bill was an avid Cleveland Sports and Ohio State Buckeyes fan but also followed the Steelers.

Bill’s family and friends would describe him as social and friendly-he never knew a stranger and had a great sense of humor. He was very intelligent and loved trivia.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Bill to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Celebration of Life Service Saturday August 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at THE FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at Lake View Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Bill at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) FRIDAY AUGUST 26, 2022 from 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM.
