Sgt. WOLFGANG KYLE WENINGER, USMC, MARSOC Raider, age 28; died tragically during a training exercise June 16, 2020; cherished son of Ernst Weninger (wife Dawn) and Michelle Henry (nee Jaycic) (husband Scott Henry); devoted brother of Drew Weninger and McKinley and Milo Henry; beloved grandson of Sandra Jaycic (nee Vitale) and the late Michael Jaycic, Blanka (nee Scherer) and Andrew Weninger; loving nephew of Terri (Michael) George, Michael (Carla) Jaycic, Stephen Weninger, Attila (Patricia) Weninger, Mark (Julie) Weninger, and the late Karl (Susan) Weninger; dearest great-nephew and cousin of many, especially the Henry family; devoted companion to Shannon Riggins of NC.
Depending when and how you knew him, determined if he was Kyle or Wolf for you. Kyle lived the last 5 years in North Carolina since his enlistment in the Marine Corps. He grew up in Auburn Township and graduated from Kenston High School in 2010. Kyle and his family are long-time members of Holy Angels Parish. After graduating High School, he continued his football career while attending both Catholic University and Valparaiso University, then finished schooling at Kent State University before choosing his military career. Kyle was an accomplished and avid hockey player to this day and enjoyed golf, fishing, and motorcycles. He was a true outdoorsman. Yet he always loved his karaoke times. His music choices covered all genres and many decades. Kyle was artistic, specifically in designing tattoos. He loved people, being a Marine MARSOC Raider, being a part of any team, and especially being a Special Forces Operator. Kyle loved being with his family especially for Turkey Bowls, visiting the lake house, fishing trips to Canada and family vacations. His family remembers Kyle as being just fun, out-going, full of life, sarcastic, caring, humble, humorous, hard-working, fiercely loyal, dedicated, and always a natural leader. He will be deeply missed by many and his spirit will live on in those that knew him best.

There are many of us who have lost a large part of our being. What a large hole in our hearts this has created. Life will not be the same for us. As in all of Kyle’s endeavors, once again he is leading us – to realize what is important in life: God, Family, and our Relationships. Rest in Peace, Warrior Kyle. We love you so much Wolf and will never forget those fantastic memories.
God Bless You Weninger and Henry Families,

I was saddened to hear of Kyle’s passing. Yet I am tremendously proud of having known him and coached him. His decision to return to football his senior year was absolutely critical to our success. Much more importantly however, his life after Kenston can serve as an inspiration to us all. I extend my condolences to his entire family at this difficult time.

I’ve never got the chance to meet Wolf in person but I know from the countless hours over the past year or so of playing PUBG on Xbox Live with him that everything everyone said about him is absolutely true. Can’t believe he’s gone, we miss him, we love him, he will forever be in our hearts. RIP “Booty” -rasta

Dear Weninger Family,
Although I cannot be there in body, know that I am there with you in spirit. Due to current circumstances I am not able to cross borders back into the states to attend. However I wish to reach out and contact you somehow, to let you know what he meant to me. Wolf was a larger than life individual, in everything he did he excelled. His perseverance and dedication to a cause was only rivaled by his good humor and beer pong skills, which I grew very accustomed to. It hurts me more than I am able to put into words to see someone so great and kind, lose his life so soon. A great friend is one in a thousand and I mourn the fact that I may never find one of his caliber again. I met him at my first unit: Combat Logistics Battalion 8 in Camp Lejeune, NC. On the weekends we would see him at our friend Robert’s house playing beer pong and enjoying life. His references, more times than not, went right over my head. As much as he made fun of me, he reminded me of an older brother cracking jokes, lacking any real bite in his words but playful remarks meant to create humorous memories in us all. At work he was even more influential. He helped me mature and grow as an individual and Marine. He never directly lead me while I was there but through his example I was able to discern and understand what a Marine was supposed to be on and off duty. I was constantly inspired on how much and how easily he accomplished things and to the end I respected him more than most will ever know or understand. Although you do not know me, please feel free to contact me whenever you want and if you ever need anything please reach out! I wish you the best and rest assured that your family is in my prayers!
Ernst Weninger
Nathan…this is so very thoughtful of you and we appreciate your memories more than you know. I’m sorry we have not been able to meet you as well but your words and your prayers mean a lot to all of us. Thank you so very much!

I went to Notre Dame Elementary School with Kyle. Unfortunately, we lost touch after high school (outside of social media). He became an amazing man that I am so proud to have known.
All my love, thoughts, and prayers go out to his family.
Ernst Weninger
Thank you Anna…I remember you and do so appreciate your note and prayers.

Ernie, I am at a loss for words. Carmelo and I send our deepest sympathies to you and your family. You have been in my thoughts everyday since I learned of Kyle’s passing. While I never met your sons, I know they were everything to you and that you were so very proud of them. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you, and I hope one day that the hurt you must feel right now lessons and that the warmth of a sunny day reminds you that Kyle is with you always. Your friend always,
Ernst Weninger
Laurie…it’s been too long and on behalf of our family, thank you so very much for reaching out this way and for your thoughts and prayers!

As a fellow Marine that went to Kenston, I am deeply saddened by your loss. The men in MARSOC are among the most respected members in the Marine Corps and I’m sure Kyle was no exception. Although I never met Kyle, his memory will live on through the men and women continuing his legacy. Semper Fidelis.
Ernst Weninger
Thank you Ryan…this is very kind of you to remember us this way. Good luck to you young man and thank you so very much for your service!
Laurie
I’m so very sorry for your loss. As a mother of a Marine, my heart breaks for your family and friends. Thoughts and prayers for all as you remember your son’s life and hold on to precious memories. Rest in Peace, Sgt. Weninger.

After todays funeral mass two things come to mind, 1. No parent should have to bury their child, heartbreaking. 2. Kyle’s Dad and brother, Drew made all of us feel so much closer to Kyle today and if anyone didn’t leave the church today wanting to become a better person because of Kyle, you missed the entire meaning behind the mass and celebration of Kyle’s life today.
Though I’ve only met Kyle briefly at Milo’s hockey games (Milo’s Holy Name #4 jersey, has so much more meaning behind it now), I’m blessed to have been able to meet such an amazing young man. Thank you Sgt. Kyle Weninger for your service and setting an example for all of us, that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. I look forward to the days ahead, when Michelle will light up once again as she talks so proudly of Kyle, as she always has.
Fly High on Eagles Wings.

To the parents of Wolf:
You did an amazing job raising up this young man. He was a tenant of ours and he was a joy to have. He always appeared happy and kept me and my fellow office buddy laughing. When he first applied for our property, we asked him if his name was truly “Wolfgang” and he said “Yes it is, but y’all can call me Wolf!” What an amazing name you gave him. He was such a great individual to know. I appreciate his service, your support, and I pray for peace and understanding for your whole family. May God be with you and may Wolf live in peace.
