
THOMAS S. AMODEO age 95, beloved husband for 65 years of the late Lucy (nee Panzica); loving father of Mary Macko, Thomas, Robert, and Cathleen Birli (husband Joseph); devoted grandfather of Jason Macko (wife Michelle), Catie Montagna (husband Anthony), Joseph Birli (wife Nicole) and Samantha Harris (husband Scott) and great-grandfather of Anthony and Maddalina Montagna and Timothy and Rosemary Harris; cherished son of the late Salvatore and Providenza (nee Pusateri); dearest brother to Lucy Louis (husband Raymond, deceased) and the late Santo, Joseph (wife Carmella, deceased), JoAnne Terhune (husband Thomas, deceased); dear uncle and great-uncle of many. U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran.
Thomas was born in Sicily Italy and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island in 1930 when he was 4 years old. He worked at the family grocery store in Shaker Heights until he married the love of his life Lucy.
They moved to South Euclid in 1961 where they raised their family until they moved to Chardon in 2000. Thomas attended Shaker Heights High School and went on to become the co-owner of the Village Market. After the Village Market closed he became a crossing guard for the South-Euclid Lyndhurst School District, a job he loved.
Thomas enjoyed collecting stamps and coins as well as bowling and playing gin-rummy. He enjoyed gardening and being out in the sun. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He attended countless Sunday games over his lifetime. Thomas was hospitable. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed having people over. He was reserved with a strong will. He was hard-working and had a unique sense of humor. He was devoted to his family and his faith and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Tom to the Alzheimer’s Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, February 7, 2022 at St. Helen Catholic Church at 10AM. Burial with Military Honors following at All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Tom at THE DeJOHN FUNERAL HOME & CELEBRATIONS CENTER OF CHESTERLAND 12811 CHILLICOTHE ROAD (Rt. 306, just south of Mayfield Rd.) Sunday 1-5 PM.
