
VINCENT M. PANICHI, age 88, beloved husband for 60 years of Laura (nee Engoglia); loving father of Michael (wife Suzanne) and Christopher (wife Julie); devoted grandfather of Olivia, Anthony, Jack, Lucy, Maggie and James; cherished son of the late Silvio and Antoinette (nee Pucci); dearest brother of the late Dolores Fiorelli and brother-in-law of the late Theresa Ricchiuto; dear uncle, great-uncle and friend of many.
Vincent was born in Cleveland (Collinwood), grew up in the Cleveland Heights area, and resided in the Mayfield Heights/Mayfield Village area for the last 58 years. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1953 where he played Trumpet in the marching band, and then from John Carrol University in 1957 with a degree in accounting. Later, he received his master’s degree from Western Reserve University and resided briefly in Columbus, Ohio while attaining his doctorate at The Ohio State. Vincent was a CPA and began his career as a professor at John Carrol University and chaired the accounting department from 1970-78. He loved teaching and spent over thirty years with the University.
Before his retirement, he founded the Magis Society, and he installed planned giving as a significant development instrument. He was a founding member of the accounting firm, Ciuni & Panichi Inc. which still survives today. Vincent’s devotion to community service included: Board of Regents member and Chairman of the Finance Committee at St. Ignatius High School, Campaign Treasurer for the late Senator George V. Voinovich, Member and President of the Cuyahoga County Community Improvement Corporation and a member of the Cleveland Growth Association, among others. He enjoyed fly fishing, listening to classical and opera music, and was a Guardians fan.
Many would describe him as hardworking, prompt, a progressive thinker, ethical, witty, and sociable. He was a gentleman, kind-hearted and generous. Vincent was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather as well as being devoted to his Catholic faith. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Vince to Catholic Charities or Magis Society.
Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, July 6, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 6850 Mayfield Rd., Gates Mills, OH at 10 AM. Entombment following at All Souls Mausoleum. Family will receive friends to pay tribute to and celebrate the life of Vince at THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME OF WILLOUGHBY HILLS on WEDNESDAY 4 – 8 PM.
