GIO, a two year old Portuguese Water Dog, is now a Therapy Dog at DeJohn Funeral Homes.
Now that he has received his training, Gio will provide support to families at the funeral home and in the community.
In difficult times, we can all appreciate unconditional affection. As a certified Therapy Dog, Gio provides comfort and emotional support to families during their grief journey. He loves to help and give support to adults and children when attending funeral services or visiting nursing homes, hospitals and schools.
“Gio loves people and is happiest when he is offering his services with love, compassion and friendship. We are very excited to have Gio join our efforts in providing comfort to others during difficult and stressful times. Gio will accompany me on occasion to get him socialized to the funeral home,” said Ross DeJohn Jr., Chief Executive Officer and Funeral Director.
Gio was born in September 2019 and is a non-shedding, hypoallergenic, Portuguese Water Dog. Since joining the DeJohn family, he has become a certified and trained therapy dog for the Funeral Home. Gio loves to run and play, offering a playful energy that only a young pup can share. He especially misses his sister Coco since her passing in 2021.
Coco was a nine year old, non-shedding, hypoallergenic, Portuguese Water Dog. She was welcomed into the DeJohn family in August 2013. Coco was a member of Therapy Dogs International, Inc. since 2017. Coco has helped hundreds of adults, children and seniors ease their minds away from their problems at hand with her unconditional love and friendship. Gio is happily continuing the work Coco began when she first arrived to the family.
